The Drone Wars

I wasn't aware our foreign drone program extended this far (h/t instapundit ALL HAIL INSTAPUNDIT):

"Since taking office in 2009, President Obama has relied heavily on drones for operations, both declared and covert, in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Libya and Somalia. U.S. drones also fly from allied bases in TurkeyItalySaudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines."

Also: I suspect drones are being currently used by law enforcement stateside, and not just at the borders.  Too tinfoil hat?  Maybe.

A very comprehensive outline of the events leading to the attack on 9/11 was written by Steven Coll, entitled Ghost Wars. Good read.  Anyhoo, one of the events that stuck with me was Coll's description of how Clinton directed the CIA as opposed to his predecessors.  Mainly, Clinton relied on more remote means for operations, as Bush and Reagan took a more hands-on approach.

I guess the point I am trying to make here is that I pray Obama is not making the same mistake*.  Having people in the field still has its advantages over a more sterile approach, i.e. drones.

*Coll and I cannot stress enough that we are not blaming Clinton for 9/11.  I blame the hijackers and militant, fundamentalist Islam.

Last note: go see Zero Dark Thirty.  Understand why the left hated it: no Obama appearance  (his actual dithering is hinted at), the real WMD threat assessment was explained in proper context, the audience was left to make up their mind on treatment of non-combatants and not spoon-fed dogma, and credit was given where due.  Also, Adm. McRaven got a proper shout-out.

Content-wise, the movie was outstanding.  The director definitely redeemed herself for that steaming pile called "The Hurt Locker".

No Fun League

NFL bans leading with the crown of the helmet outside the tackle box.  This will not end well.

Look, I love football.  I know that this game is played at a very fast pace. This measure, in my opinion, will do nothing.

You want to lower cranial injury in the NFL in the long term?  Get rid of the current pads.  Replace them with what rugby players can wear.  Or go back to the rules where in order for the play to end, the tackler has to take the person to the ground.  Both rules discourage tacklers from launching at the ball carrier.

Just my $0.25

Also noted that they are ending the tuck rule.  Only took 13 years after one team's postseason was ended wrongly.

Next thing you know they'll overturn the Electoral College.

Bracket Fun Time

click for big

It's not hate.  It's just that I felt like some things have to be done.

Notes:
  • I tried to lump in as much as I could to avoid "bubble teams".  "China" would be a good example here.
  • There is crossover between some of the above entrants.  Where necessary and significant, I separated some entrants that had relationships. For example, the Libya and Benghazi entrants.
  • My time is very limited.  Still, this entire thing took about 10 minutes to produce.  Loosely translated, this means that Obama is awfully bad at his job.
  • I did this in a hurry.  I can't stress this enough.  In hindsight, I should have named this "The Failed Presidency Pool" or something similar.

Yale Propaganda vs. Skeptics

I always suggest to my friends "Never read the comments".

This is the exception.  Just think: climate alarm-ism maintains billions of dollars in funding per year.  The skeptics get relatively nothing.  There's always hope.

Taxation = Thievery (updated)

H/T Legal Insurrection:

The White House wouldn't comment, but was visibly aroused.

Think it can't happen here?  We've already seen the government take loans from pensions.  It can happen.

Expected rationales for a government seizing assets from any given saving account:

  • "Fair share."
  • "Governmental tithe.  Please hold still."
  • "The rich are just stockpiling money and won't spend it, hurting the economy".  The "inactivity=activity" argument.  Upheld by Supreme Court under taxation powers.
  • "The Fed insures it.  That means the Fed has rights to it when necessary."
  • "That's a nice life you have there.  Shame if anything were to happen to it."
  • "We're only confiscating the wealth of the Jews."
...ad nauseum.

UPDATE: WC Varones struck gold with this one.

Music

Baby is starting to sleep, which means Daddy got some sleep last night.  Weather is beautiful.  Some good music is necessary.

Blogversary

Today is the one year anniversary of this humble blog.

Also, my wife and I were told by the doctors they need to induce.  Baby's fine, but the placenta integrity is down and her amniotic levels are low.

Stork is on approach.
